The followers of Jesus must have noticed something about how Jesus prayed that led them to ask him to teach them how to pray. Even though they were from a culture that had regular prayers, there was something about how Jesus prayed that was different and drew them. It is that Jesus enjoyed prayer. For him, it was not an end to itself but a means to an end and the end is to be with the father. So Jesus teaches them how to through what has become known as the Lord’s Prayer. As he starts, it is all about changing our cognitive framework for prayer so that it can be something we can enjoy and be drawn to.
