Jesus’ Birth was the entry of true hope into the world. It came with so much joy that even heaven could not contain it. A choir of angels is seen celebrating the advent of hope, true hope, on earth. Glory to God in the highest they sang.
God honoured poor shepherds whom society considered of no mention to be the first to see this kind of joy that was happening in heaven. Joy unspeakable and infectious. And in turn, they could not keep it to themselves. God’s hope includes all creation, including the downtrodden. There is something about people in low places and their awareness of their need which makes them easily receptive to true hope. When we are aware that all we have is hope, we can easily step into overwhelming joy even in times of great suffering.
